The road to Fijnbos |
On days like today, surrounded by packing boxes, a mountain of work in my inbox and a to-do list which is frankly just tedious, all I feel like doing is daydreaming and procrastinating. And my happy place today is Fijnbos cheese farm on the Garden Route.
I'm not sure if I actually want to write this post, as this is a little gem I'd like to keep hidden secret from the rest of the world, forever, and go there to hide away with my husband once a year.
But that wouldn't be fair, would it.
Fijnbos is a little farm about 50kms from Plettenberg Bay, where you can have fresh home made cheese, eat fresh bread, take in the beautiful surroundings, drink some good wine and stare at the lake and the cows wandering past. And wonder why life isn't always like this.
Lunch. What more could you ask for? |
We've gone there once a year for lunch for about seven years now when on our summer holidays, and this year we were lucky enough to be the first people to stay in the newly built cottage on the property.
It's beautiful and rustic and basic. And quiet. There is no electricity but a gas stove to make coffee and a hot shower and a huge fireplace for cuddling in front of during the winter.
And a porch and stars and long walks through the forest just outside the door.

My husband and I spent our fifth wedding anniversary at the cottage, which was incidentally our first night alone together since having the twins. Which may have something to do with the fact that I prized the silence so highly!
If you are planning a trip to the Garden Route and need accommodation away from the beach for a night or two, or just want to stop by for an amazing lunch, give them a call.
