 One of the things that scares me about having a daughter (besides all the obvious things that leap to mind - boyfriends, shopping trips, teenage attitude) is the fact that I will one day be required to know how to do a French plait.

I never mastered this skill when I was at school, neither did my Mom. So I never had a French plait (otherwise known as a braid for those of you who aren't from around here). In an effort to gain some new skills and update my look a bit, (I saw in an issue of Elle magazine while at the hairdresser that a messy French braid is very in thise winter, who knew) I have been teaching myself to braid this past week. Not as easy as it sounds, seeing as you are practicing behind your head.

Funny enough, I got it right the first night, while messing around just before going to bed - this always happens to me, and then I can't replicate it in the morning - and it's been a bit hit and miss since then.
