Yum Yum.
That's all there really is to say!
We went to the Great Eastern Food Bar about three weeks ago for birthday celebrations and had such a lovely time.
The restaurant is above Service Station in the Bamboo Centre, Melville, which is apparently undergoing a bit of a revival and has some great restaurants for those tired of the same-old Parkhurst weekend scene. The decor is sparse and modern, with small tables that mean you can have a good conversation and still enjoy the atmosphere.
If you are looking for something really different and love light Asian food it's definitely for you. The menu, as all the reviews I had read prior to going had warned, is rather small. But the style of the restaurant is 'Asian tapas' so go with a group and order lots of different things.
We shared lots of starters, which was probably my best part of the evening - dim sum, sashimi tacos, steamed buns and edamame beans with nori chips.
It is a vegetarian restaurant with fish and seafood, and I must be honest that I was quite relieved when one of our party who is a 'meat and potatoes' kind of guy had to cancel at the last minute.
Look, no one is going to accuse them of being inexpensive. But it's such a great restaurant offering something different from the usual boring old Jo'burg nonsense, so give it a try.
